Stephanie McMahon Resigns As WWE Co-CEO After Vince Returns As Chairman Following Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Things are changing within the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fast. Stephanie McMahon is resigning as WWE co-CEO, less than one week after her father, Vince McMahon, came out of retirement and returned as chairman of the board.

Stephanie shared co-CEO duties alongside Nick Khan, who is now the sole CEO of WWE. Her husband, WWE Hall of Famer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, remains as the person driving WWE’s weekly TV storyline. She served as the co-CEO and Chairwoman of WWE for the last six months before making the announcement. In her post, Stephanie also shared her confidence in Khan and Levesque.

“With Nick’s leadership and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque as chief content officer, I am confident WWE is in the perfect place to continue to provide unparalleled creative content and drive maximum value for shareholders,” Stephanie wrote in a statement.

“WWE is in such a strong position that I have decided to return to my leave and take it one step further with my official resignation. I look forward to cheering on WWE from the other side of the business, where I started when I was a little kid, as a pure fan.”

Stephanie’s resignation comes less than a week after her father Vince’s return. Vince had been in retirement for nearly six months amid an ongoing sexual misconduct scandal. He had to step down after The Wall Street Journal revealed that he paid more than US$12 million to four women over the past 16 years in an attempt to silence allegations of sexual misconduct and infidelity.

Two women have also made claims against the now Chairman. The first claim came from a former spa manager who claims Vince assaulted her in 2011. The other is ex-WWE referee Rita Chatterton, who is seeking US$11.75 million in damages in connection with a 1992 television interview where she said McMahon raped her in the back of a limousine.

Since returning as chairman, Vince has elected former WWE co-presidents Michelle Wilson and George Barrios as the company’s board of directors too.
