As The Mandalorian series continues to expand on the lore of bounty hunters in space, the Star Wars video game universe will soon add its own spin to established narratives. Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment is currently developing a first-person Mandalorian title, according to a report by Insider Gaming.
The project, which is reportedly still early in development, will see players controlling an unspecified Mandalorian during the height of the Galactic Empire’s power, who’s tasked to take on bounties for cash. Not much is known about the story, but sources describe gameplay to be “very fast-paced”, with health regenerating upon successful kills.
In line with its high mobility focus, fans can also expect gadgets like a wrist rocket, grapple hook, and a jetpack that allows for horizontal dashing, vertical jumping, and boost sliding — a mechanic said to be similar to the sliding feature in Apex Legends. Additionally, the report notes that it won’t be open world, and is instead made up of linear levels set across multiple planets. Whether there will be multiplayer remains unclear.
This comes after the studio confirmed the existence of a first-person Star Wars shooter back in 2022. There’s currently no word on a release date for the Mandalorian-focused game, with the next in the lineup being Star Wars Outlaws. That hails from Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, however, and is slated for release sometime in 2024.
For Respawn, it’s going to be a busy time. Apart from the Mandalorian title, the studio is also working on current and upcoming live-service content for Apex Legends, a third title in the Star Wars Jedi series, and a Star Wars strategy game.
