Good news Trekkies! Star Trek: Picard is officially renewed for a season 3 – and a brand new trailer for season 2 just dropped too!
Announced by Patrick Stewart himself during a live-streamed Star Trek Day celebration, the leading actor confirmed that Picard will return for its second season in February 2022 and that a third season is officially renewed at Paramount+.
News of season three has been swirling as early as January 2020 as the plan was to film back-to-back on seasons two and three. Filming the seasons back-to-back is part of a bid to control costs and accommodate production schedules. The writers’ room for season three has been up and running for more than a year.
Season two of Picard sees Stewart and co-star Jeri Ryan return to their roles, and will see Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Orla Brady and Brent Spiner back too.
Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Stewart, Terry Matalas, Michael Chabon, Doug Aarniokoski, Dylan Massin, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth all serve as executive producers on Picard season two. Aaron Baiers and Kirsten Beyer serve as co-executive producers. Goldsman and Terry Matalas are co-showrunners for Season 2.
Season three of Picard is currently slated for an early 2023 release.
