‘Squirrel with a Gun’ Game Lets You Be…A Squirrel With A Gun

Creativity knows no bounds when it comes to video games, which gives players a chance to be anything they want to be…even a squirrel with a gun. As it turns out, there’s currently a project in development that lets you do so — and no, we’re not kidding.

The game, aptly titled Squirrel with a Gun, transforms players into the adorable, scurrying creature and arms them with a regular-sized firearm that can be used to rob people, solve puzzles, and fight suspicious-looking government agents. It’s all kinds of ridiculous and silly, and we’re totally here for it.

Indie developer Daniel DeEntremont is the brains behind the chaos, and has made what seems to have started out as a joke into an official listing on Steam. It’ll focus on goofy shooting, action combat, and fundamental puzzle-solving, with players having the choice to use their skills to rob people in the neighbourhood, or help them out and receive rewards. They will even be able to pull off some gravity-defying acrobatics in the midst of a confrontation, propelled by the recoil of the gun.

For now, Squirrel with a Gun has a release date of “Good question!,” but the enticing prospect of being able to wake up and choose violence will make the wait worthwhile. Past precedents have, after all, shown that it’s possible to find huge success with an unconventional formula, with both Untitled Goose Game and Annapurna Interactive’s Stray becoming a massive hit at launch. There are shared elements here as well — namely, chaotic energy, and an animal protagonist.
