Square Enix has announced the launch of the latest additions to its SQEX Pets line-up, with new pet accessories themed after three of its biggest gaming franchises: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts.
Developed in collaboration with Combi, a Tokyo-based manufacturer of childcare and pet care products, the new accessories are designed to level up the quality time spent with pets, and will be shaped after the franchise’s most recognisable icons, such as Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword from Final Fantasy and the Slime from Dragon Quest.
The SQEX Pets lineup is split into three categories: Dragon Quest Pets, Final Fantasy Pets and Kingdom Hearts Pets. Headlining the Dragon Quest Pets collection is the Pet Cart Slime, a customisable stroller with its cover shaped to resemble the franchise’s iconic tear-shaped mascot. The pet cart also comes in a DX set, which includes the cart alongside additional accessories like Slime-themed grip covers and comfort cushions. Rounding off the collection are Bandanas, a Cafe Mat, a pet house and a leash, all with Slime-themed designs. The Dragon Quest Slime pet stroller starts at 69,960 yen (US$481) for the base version, with the DX Set costing 77,000 yen (US$530).
For Final Fantasy fans, the iconic Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII has been reimagined into a 21.7-inch cat scratching pad, which is not only big enough to accommodate larger cats whilst lying horizontally but can also be stood upright to be used as a scratching post. Alternatively, a scratching pad designed after Cait Sith’s Fat Moogle companion from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is also available. For dog owners, the Buster Sword rope chew toy would surely be a hit, especially for smaller dogs. Both cat scratching pads cost 9,900 yen (US$68) each, while the rope chew toy costs 2,970 yen (US$20).
Finally, the Kingdom Hearts Pets collection brings a range of accessories designed after the classic role-playing game series, such as dogwear resembling Sora’s jacket from games, as well as a game-themed walking bag, rope toys, leashes and pet beds. The Sora dogwear will cost 7,700 yen (US$53), while the pet beds start at 6,996 yen (US$48).
The SQEX Pets lineup is now available for pre-order through the Squar Enix online store, with shipping currently scheduled for September 2025.
