Spider-Man Will Now Be In The Same Cinematic Universe As Venom And Morbius The Living Vampire

By now it is pretty much confirmed that the drama between Disney and Sony will not be getting better anytime soon, hence removing Spider-Man from all future MCU outings. However, all is not lost for fans of the web-slinger as Sony has let slip that Spidey will be joining the same cinematic universe as Venom and Morbius.

In an interview with Variety, Chairman and CEO of Sony Tony Vinciquerra has confirmed that Sony has plans of their own for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

“Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well,” Vinciquerra said when explaining why Sony thinks Spidey will do well even without the help of the Avengers, “I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”

Putting aside the fact that he was clearly not talking about Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, or Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we can see that Sony has lots of confidence in making their own solo Spider-Man film post-split with Disney. Vinciquerra even used The Boys and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse as examples of how they have successfully pulled off a good superhero film or series.

For now, we will have to wait and see how Sony plans to follow up on the cliffhanger left by Spider-Man: Far From Home. They might possibly do a soft reboot, once more restoring Spider-Man’s real identity. However, it is much more likely that they will try to move on with this plotline whilst stripping the movie of all its MCU reference.

Though it will take a while for fans to forget the whole drama between Sony and Disney, and the disappointment of never seeing Peter Parker interact with the rest of the MCU cast, it is still welcome news that Tom Hardy’s Venom, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Jared Leto’s Morbius the Living Vampire will be sharing the same universe moving forward.
