Recent years have seen a comeback in retro gaming platforms, with the Super NES Classic re-released in 2017 and just last week, the Sega Mega Drive Mini.
To coincide with its 40th anniversary, SNK, the Osaka-based game company, is planning to release a “new game machine”. The new hardware would feature a compilation of popular Neo-Geo games (think the likes of Metal Slug and The King of Fighters). We can only guess what is under that black cloak in the above image, but it looks like a mini version of their Neo-Geo arcade machine.

SNK’s change in slogan to “The Future Is Now” signifies a return to their rich gaming history, and a shift of company focus back to producing arcade and mobile games.
With the company’s troubled financial history due to poor sales and management, the nostalgia-fueled trend of retro gaming could be the kicker needed to revitalise SNK.
We have our fingers crossed for a new Metal Slug.
