There’s plenty of slaying taking place in Slay the Spire 2, and that includes player count milestones. The roguelike deck-builder, sequel to 2019’s indie darling, has eclipsed its predecessor’s Steam record by three times, peaking at 576,638 concurrent players on the platform, per SteamDB.

It’s an impressive feat for the early-access title, coming after its launch temporarily crashed Steam, with only three other titles surpassing its 24-hour peak: PUBG (727,613), Dota 2 (805,910), and Counter-Strike 2 (1,617,998). On the heels of Mega Crit’s latest are ARC Raiders and Apex Legends, which registered 235,475 and 220,639 players over the weekend, respectively. Specific to the roguelike genre, the numbers are way ahead of the race — tactical adventure Mewgenics peaked at 115,000 concurrent players, while Supergiant Games’ Hades 2 topped out at 112,000.
Additionally, Slay the Spire 2 also set a new record for the biggest Steam release this year so far, surpassing Resident Evil Requiem‘s series-best showing of 344,214 concurrent players. Nobody is more surprised than the developers themselves, who took to X/Twitter to express their gratitude to fans.
“Our team is TOTALLY blown away by the amount of people who have been playing & sharing their love for the game we’ve been working on for the past half decade,” reads the appreciation post. “We’re excited to continue to make StS2 the best it can be!! Also obligatory joke: we’ll getcha one day Silksong.”

Team Cherry released Hollow Knight: Silksong last year after an eight-year wait, hitting an all-time peak of 587,150 — just a little out of reach. It follows Hallownest’s former princess protector, Hornet, after she is captured and transported to the unfamiliar land of Pharloom.
Slay the Spire 2, meanwhile, sees players using and gaining cards to defeat monsters and complete encounters as they progress through multiple levels of the titular spire. The full game currently has no release date.
