Rod Fergusson Drops Gears Of War To Take On Diablo At Blizzard

Having been an integral part of the teams behind the entire Gears of War franchise, the head of The Coalition, Rod Fergusson, has announced his departure from the studio to try something new.

That something new is joining Blizzard Entertainment, as the head of the Diablo series. This comes after the initial reveal of Diablo IV during BlizzCon 2019.

“I began working on Gears of War over 15 years ago and since then, it has been the joy of my life. But now it’s time for a new adventure,” Fergusson said on Twitter. “I leave Gears in the great hands of The Coalition and can’t wait for everyone to play Gears Tactics on April 28.”

Fergusson has been at the Vancouver-based studio since 2014, back when it was called Black Tusk Studios. The loss of an experienced leader like Rod Fergusson will likely have some ramifications, but here’s hoping that the good folks at The Coalition continue to put out great work like Gears 5,

This development follows another major video game departure, with Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser departing the company next month.
