For fans of all things undead and shambling, there is something new to look forward come this summer. A new CG-animated film set in Capcom‘s Resident Evil universe is on the horizon, with the reveal of Resident Evil: Death Island, directed by Assassination Classroom‘s Eiichiro Hasumi and with a screenplay from Psycho-Pass‘ Makoto Fukami.
The new film is also a sequel to Resident Evil: Vendetta, which starred Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and more. While there is no set release date, what we do know looks set to be another interesting take on the usual zombie outbreak.
The official description of Resident Evil: Death Island is as follows:
D.S.O. agent Leon S. Kennedy is on a mission to rescue Dr. Antonio Taylor from kidnappers, when a mysterious woman thwarts his pursuit. Meanwhile, B.S.A.A. agent Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, where the cause of the infection cannot be identified. The only thing the victims have in common is that they all visited Alcatraz Island recently. Following that clue, Chris and his team head to the island, where a new horror awaits them.
For those keeping count, Resident Evil: Death Island will be the fourth CG animated film in the series thus far, with Vendetta being preceded by Degeneration in 2008 and Damnation in 2012.
Of course, these adventures by familiar heroes are not the same as the horrors faced in the games, and with Resident Evil 4 on the radar, it is likely that Resident Evil: Death Island will be another avenue in which fans and players alike are being encouraged to take the fight to the zombies.
