Ready Player One Sequel To Release In November

It’s time to step back into the Oasis with Ernest Cline’s sequel to his bestselling novel Ready Player One that is aptly titled, you guessed it, Ready Player Two.

The sequel novel will be published on 24 November by Ballantine Books and is already available for preorders online. Not much is known about the book’s plot details but it is highly likely to pick up after the events of the first novel.

Set in the dystopian future of 2045, Ready Player One tells the story of people trying to escape their bleak reality with an online massively multiplayer virtual reality space called The Oasis. One day, a competition was announced to find various easter eggs in The Oasis, with the one person who finds every easter egg gaining not only vast amounts of money but also control over The Oasis.

The novel was adapted into a movie in 2018 with Steven Spielberg as director. Cline served as a co-writer for the film alongside Zack Penn (The Avengers).

Chock full of pop culture references that appealed to audiences young and old (who can forget that one Gundam scene), the film went on to earn US$528.8 million in the global box office, making it Spielberg’s highest-grossing film since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008.Â
