It’s a special 30th-anniversary celebration for PlayStation, as Sony has released classic themes for the PS5, a feature previously absent from its latest console. Users can now style their home screens and menus after the various consoles across Sony’s history.
As reported by X/Twitter user Shinobi602, the new update enables users to change parts of the PS5 home screen background with themes of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4, although it is specified that these features will be available only “for a limited time.”
As part of PlayStation's 30th Anniversary, you can change parts of the PS5 startup and background, including the bootup audio sounds and themes of previous generations PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4.

These designs are added “to your home screen and other areas”, applying various elements depending on the console chosen. For example, the PSOne theme adds the iconic console to the top half of the home screen background, while the PS2, PS3 and PS4 theme add their respective menu designs as seen in each previous console.
All themes will also feature each console’s respective sound effects, with the original start-up animation replaced by the iconic PSOne bootup screen after downloading the update and restarting the PS5.
It’s currently unclear how long these themes will be available, but it’d be nice if they could be kept as a permanent addition. In the meantime, Sony is also running a PlayStation 30th Anniversary sale on the PlayStation Store until 20 December.
