Sony Delays PlayStation 5 Price Until Microsoft Prices Xbox Series X

2020 will finally see the new generation of consoles hit the market, with Microsoft’s Xbox Series X going head-to-head with Sony’s PlayStation 5. Plenty of questions remain about the two, but one of the most important is the pricing of the PS5 and the Series X.

In an earnings call, Sony management did kind of allude to an answer, stating that such details will be affected by other factors, including the competition, and we could see Sony potentially undercutting Microsoft yet again in pricing with the PS5.

“What is not very clear or visible … is because we are competing in the space,” CFO Hiroki Totoki emphasised via a translator. “So it is very difficult to discuss anything about the price at this time. Depending upon the price level, we may have to determine the promotion that we are going to deploy, and how much cost we are prepared to pay. So it is a question of balance.”

While plans are still in motion, fans and investors can rest easy knowing that Sony will “choose the optimal approach.”

Sony has also slyly launched the official website for the PlayStation 5, upping the anticipation that something is brewing, although we will have to wait and see if that is the case.
