Nintendo Switch Online To Come With 20 Classic NES Games

Nintendo Switch Online is Nintendo’s bid to bring online multiplayer gameplay to the Switch console, offering online compatible games and a host of extra features such as data cloud backup for a fee. This subscription service comes with access to 20 classic NES games, which will be available for online play for the first time ever.

Out of the 20, Nintendo has confirmed 10 titles:

  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario Bros.
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • Dr. Mario
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Super Mario Bros. 3

That means there are 10 more games yet to be announced, and Nintendo plans to add more games on a regular basis. However, it’s a bit of a bummer that previously free games including Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido will now require a Nintendo Switch Online membership to be played. The companion Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app also allows for voice chatting during your gaming sessions with friends.

The Nintendo Switch Online service will go live in September 2018, and membership ranges from US$3.99 for one month to US$19.99 for 12 months.
