Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Season 6 of Black Mirror, giving viewers a glimpse at the season’s five episodes while announcing its 15 June release date.
A peek at one of the episodes, titled “Joan Is Awful,” follows the story of an ordinary woman, portrayed by Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek), who stumbles upon a fictional portrayal of her life on a satire of Netflix named Streamberry. To her surprise, the character based on her is played by Salma Hayek Pinault (Eternals) in a high-quality drama series.
Meanwhile, a separate episode titled “Beyond the Sea” sees Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor) appearing in a story that revolves around two individuals engaged in a dangerous mission while grappling with the aftermath of an unimaginable tragedy, all of which takes place in an alternate 1969.
Additionally, the trailer provides a glimpse of the three other episodes. Among them is an intriguing storyline where a couple discovers a captivating local tale during their journey to film a documentary in Scotland. Another episode explores the struggles faced by a “troubled starlet” as she navigates the repercussions of a hit-and-run incident.
However, the most interesting episode of the batch might be “Demon 79,” where a meek sales assistant, played by London-based Singaporean actress Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), is told she must commit terrible acts to prevent disaster. The trailer reveals that this particular episode is presented by “Red Mirror”. It’s not entirely clear what this means, and may possibly be yet another in-universe Netflix spoof. Or it could be a backdoor pilot to a more classically horror-themed spin-off. We’ll find out when Black Mirror returns for Season 6 on 15 June.
