As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Fuchs has been attached to the project, which has been in the works since production rights were acquired in 2018. The screenwriter will join fellow writer Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Army of the Dead), who joined the project in late 2022. The film will be directed by Shinsuke Sato, best known for his numerous manga-to-live-action film and television adaptations such as Gantz (2011), Bleach (2018), and the Alice in Borderland series.

The My Hero Academia manga launched in 2014 via the comic magazine Shonen Jump, swiftly gaining mass popularity and becoming one of the best-selling manga of all time, leading to an anime adaptation that’s currently set for its eight and final season in October, alongside multiple spin-offs, anime movies, and games.

My Hero Academia Live-Action

While plot details for the live-action film have not been confirmed, nor has it received a release date, it will most likely stay faithful to the original manga’s narrative, which centres around Izuku Midoriya, a non-powered boy in a world where most of the population has superhuman abilities known as “quirks”, who gains the attention of the world’s greatest hero, All Might, and enrols in U.A. High School, an academy for superheroes.

Apart from writing big-budget action flicks like Wonder Woman and Argylle, Fuchs has also dabbled in various acting roles over the years, appearing in films like 2016’s La La Land and 2019’s It: Chapter Two. The 39-year-old’s next project will be the upcoming HBO prequel series It: Welcome to Derry set for release on 26 October, where he will serve as co-creator, co-showrunner and executive producer.
