National Treasure 3 In The Works At Disney

Benjamin Gates will be making a comeback as a third National Treasure film is in development at Disney.

Rumours of a third National Treasure film has been floating around for more than a decade now, since 2008 in fact. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bad Boys for Life screenwriter Chris Bremner has been tapped on to pen the script for the film, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Bruckheimer had produced the first two National Treasure movies.

The first two National Treasure films starred Nicolas Cage as amateur cryptologist Benjamin Franklin Gates. The first film, which released in 2004, had Gates looking for the titular national treasure using a coded map on the back of the Declaration of Independence while the second film centred around the missing pages in John Wilkes Booth’s diary.

There is no word yet on whether National Treasure 3 will be a reboot, or a sequel to National Treasure 2. It is also not known if any of the stars from the first two films, including Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, and Jon Voight, will reprise their roles for the third film.

As you can see, news on the upcoming movie is sparse at the moment but at least now we know that a National Treasure 3 is indeed in the works. Though it seems it will take some time before the movie gets to see the light of day.
