‘Mortal Kombat 2’ Movie Shows Off First Look At Fan Favourite Kitana

As Mortal Kombat 2 gears up for a highly-anticipated return to the ring, longtime fans of the franchise are keeping their eyes peeled for both returning and fresh character appearances. Kitana enthusiasts are in luck, as series creator Ed Boon has dropped a first-look image of the assassin.

Revealed on X/Twitter, it teases part of her costume and doesn’t show her face. The post, however, shows off the character’s iconic steel fan is in its entirety, and suffice to say, we’re certainly a, well, fan of the design. It’s a neat precursor to her upcoming debut, tying into her first in-game appearance in 1993’s Mortal Kombat 2.

Referencing the many leaks for Mortal Kombat 1, Ed also added how he “can leak stuff too,” sharing that he’s already seen an unfinished cut of the sequel. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Adeline Rudolph will breathe life into the live-action portrayal of Kitana, joining an impressive roster that includes Karl Urban as first-gen fighter Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, bodybuilder Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, and more.

Simon McQuoid, director of the 2021 film based on NetherRealm Studios’ popular brawler series, will return to helm Mortal Kombat 2. Slated for release on 24 October 2025, it’s poised to bring back most of the previous cast, such as Lewis Tan (protagonist Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), and Mehcad Brooks (Jax).
