‘Moana 2’ Trailer Sets Sail On Uncharted Waters With New Music & Maui’s Return

The anticipation is over as Disney has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the much-awaited sequel, Moana 2, signalling the return of the beloved Polynesian princess to the big screen.

Set three years after the events of the original film, Moana 2 follows its titular character as she embarks on a daring voyage into uncharted waters to deepen her people’s connections with their ancestors. The sequel builds on the legacy of the first film, where Moana restored peace to the ocean by returning the heart of Te Fiti, earning her place as a wayfinder in her village.

This new narrative promises to explore fresh themes, challenging Moana (voiced again by Auli’i Cravalho) and her community to venture into unknown territories, potentially setting the stage for thrilling encounters with glowing whale sharks and profound revelations about their ancestral heritage.

Visually, the Moana 2 trailer does not disappoint, showcasing a new epic adventure for Moana and her charismatic companion, the shape-shifting demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson). One scene features Moana interacting with an ancient drum adorned with carvings that may play a crucial role in her quest.

In addition to Cravalho and Johnson’s return, the trailer highlights moments of humour and camaraderie, including a light-hearted exchange where Maui humorously considers Hei Hei and Pua as potential snacks, reinforcing the chemistry that made the duo so endearing in the first place.

The film’s release not only aims to continue Moana’s story but also to connect viewers across generations with its universal themes of adventure, cultural heritage, and self-discovery. With this sequel, Disney looks to bolster the Moana franchise further, setting the stage for the upcoming live-action remake slated for 2026 in which Johnson will reprise his role as Maui.

Moana 2 will sail into cinemas on 27 November.
