Back in June 2021, fans of The Lord of The Rings had one more thing to look forward to when an anime in the form of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim was announced. The original animated feature will hit theatres on 12 April 2024, and although it is a long way to go, the news that Miranda Otto will be returning as Éowyn might soothe the wait for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
As reported by Deadline, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation have announced the cast for the Kenji Kamiyama feature, and everyone’s favourite Shieldmaiden of Rohan is coming back. Alongside Otto will be Brian Cox and Gaia Wise.
The movie centres around the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan, which will be voiced by Cox, with Éowyn serving as the narrator for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Wise will be playing the role of Hera, the daughter of Helm.
A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.
The events in the film are set 183 years before the original trilogy of films, and in the case of the Amazon Prime Video series in the works, that will still be way before War of the Rohirrim.
The voice ensemble also includes Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitski.
