Fans of the Metal Slug franchise will have something to look forward to in the coming months, thanks to Chinese mobile giant Tencent Games and SNK Playmore. The two publishers announced Metal Slug Code: J (working title), which will be coming to iOS and Android.
Developed by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent, Metal Slug Code: J is a modern take on the classic side-scrolling arcade shoot-em-up game. Instead of 2D graphics, it will utilise 3D graphics instead, though it will still retain the side-scrolling action that many have come to know and love.
“Metal Slug has such an amazing history of great action and gameplay so we’re proud to bring this to mobile gamers around the world,” said SNK game producer Yasuyuki Oda in a press release. “We’re happy to work closely with such a strong developer as TiMi Studios on this latest Metal Slug title.”
“Metal Slug is one of the great arcade franchises and a perfect fit for mobile play. Our team has been focused on a faithful recreation of the game’s classic shoot ’em up style, easily accessible for players that’s fun for new and existing fans of the genre,” added TiMi J1 studio general manager Winco Qin.
Aside from Metal Slug Code: J, it appears that two other games in the franchise are in the works under SNK, with one reportedly coming to console and the other tipped to be yet another mobile entry.
Meanwhile, a release date, finalised title, and pricing for Metal Slug Code: J have yet to be announced.
