Kristen Wiig (Wonder Woman 1984) is officially joining the Masters of the Universe film, not on screen, but behind the mic. The Emmy-winning comedian and actress has been tapped to voice Roboto, the mechanical warrior, in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s upcoming big-budget feature.
The film, now in post-production, adapts the iconic 1980s toyline and animated series for a new generation. At the story’s centre is Prince Adam of Eternia, who wields the Power Sword to transform into the legendary He-Man to defend Eternia from the dark sorcery of Skeletor and his army.

Leading the cast is Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) as Prince Adam/He-Man, with Jared Leto (Morbius) stepping into the role of Skeletor. They’re joined by Camila Mendes (Riverdale, Upgraded) as Teela, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Gotham) as The Sorceress, James Purefoy (Altered Carbon) as King Randor, Alison Brie (Together, Community) as Evil-Lyn, and Charlotte Riley (The Peripheral) as Queen Marlena. The ensemble also boasts Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla, Captain America: Brave New World) as Malcolm/Fisto, Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad) as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson (Deep Cover) as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson (Game of Thrones) as Goat Man, Kojo Attah (The Beekeeper) as Tri-Klops, Sasheer Zamata (Agatha All Along) as Suzie, and John Xue Zhang (The Brothers Sun) as Ram-Man.
Within the lore, Roboto is a creation of Man-at-Arms and a trusted member of the Heroic Warriors. Known for his transparent body that reveals his inner workings, the character also wields an interchangeable mechanical arm capable of transforming into weapons like a claw, laser gun, or axe. Traditionally voiced by male actors, the role gets a fresh twist with Wiig bringing her voice to the fan-favourite character.
Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) from a script by Chris Butler. Wiig is no stranger to voice acting, having lent her talents to hits like Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, Fox’s Bless the Harts and Prime Video’s Sausage Party: Foodtopia. Her most recent live-action role was in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale.
With Wiig’s signature comedic timing and voice-acting prowess, Roboto may become one of the more surprising standouts in Eternia when the franchise returns to the big screen, with a theatrical release on 5 June 2026.
