The third season of Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again will be its last, with showrunner Dario Scardapane also exiting the series partway through post-production.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this news comes roughly two months after the show’s third season wrapped filming, with sources stating that Scardapane has left the project amid its final stages of post-production as his contract had ended and was not renewed. For now, it is unclear who will take over to see the show through to completion.
The Daredevil series has seen somewhat of a turbulent journey since it was originally released on Netflix in 2015. The show initially ran for three seasons before getting cancelled, only for Disney+ to revive it under the new name, Daredevil: Born Again, in 2022. Even so, the revival still had a rocky run under its new streamer, with the 2023 production strike leading to a creative reset, which saw the firing of original writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord and the onboarding of Scardapane. This also led to the original plan of 17 episodes being split into two seasons instead.
Daredevil: Born Again sees Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, as he is targeted by the new mayor of New York, Wilson Fisk, who is played once more by Vincent D’Onofrio. The show’s second season ended with Matt being sent to prison, so it remains to be seen how the show will wrap up its narrative with its third and final season.
Despite the show coming to an end, The Hollywood Reporter’s sources state that Marvel Television still has live-action shows in development, one of which is a spy thriller referred to as Zodiac. While pure speculation for now, this could possibly be a show surrounding the recurring SHIELD foe in the comics, a criminal organisation made up of villains themed to the constellations.
