Other than original stars Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia!), Anne Hathaway (The Idea of You), Emily Blunt (Fall Guy), and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games trilogy), there will be two other actresses reprising their roles from the original film. Tracie Thoms (Rent), who played Lily, a sassy supportive art gallery manager who is best friend to Hathaway’s Andy, and Tibor Feldman (Enchanted), who played Irv Ravitz, the Runway Magazine publisher more concerned with profits than fashion, will both make a return to the big screen in their respective roles.

Disney’s 20th Century Studios is producing The Devil Wears Prada sequel, set for theatrical release on 1 May 2026. While plot details remain under wraps, the story is expected to follow Miranda Priestly (Streep) as she confronts the challenges of a declining print media industry. She will go head-to-head with her former assistant (Blunt), now a powerful executive at a luxury conglomerate that controls the ad revenue Priestly needs.

While this isn’t the first time that Streep has had a fan favourite movie revisited by filmmakers years after the original, having reprised her role in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018), ten years after the first film, the return of The Devil Wears Prada is one that fans have been clamouring for a long time.

In fact, in 2024, Streep, Blunt, and Hathaway reunited at the SAG Awards to announce the winner of Best Actor in a Comedy Series, with Hathaway and Blunt jokingly quoting iconic lines from The Devil Wears Prada to loud cheers from fans and fellow celebrities alike.

David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna are returning as director and screenwriter, alongside producer Karen Rosenfelt. The classic original film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel inspired by her time at Vogue, centred on aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) navigating life under a ruthless fashion editor. The 2006 hit grossed over US$326 million globally and an Oscar nomination for Streep.

With the hype around The Devil Wears Prada having built since the triumphant trio’s reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards, coupled with the addition of stars such as Liu, Theroux, Novak and Chalamet, fans can undoubtedly look forward to the fashion-forward return of the upcoming sequel.
