‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Trailer Makes 20th Century History With 222M Views In 24 Hours

The long-awaited reunion of Miranda Priestly, Andy Sachs, and Emily Charlton has made history not once, but twice. After a less-than-60-second teaser for The Devil Wears Prada 2 became the most-viewed trailer of 2025, its second, longer outing racked up 222 million views in 24 hours, shattering the previous record of 181.5 million views within the same window.

“222,000,000 trailer views in 24hrs? Groundbreaking. Literally. Thank you for making The Devil Wears Prada 2 the most viewed 20th Century Studios trailer of all time,” reads the studio’s announcement post on X/Twitter, in reference to an iconic line from the first movie: “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.”

The hype is hardly surprising, considering that the 2006 comedy-drama, based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel of the same name, was a commercial and critical hit. It grossed US$326 million (not adjusted for inflation) at the global box office against a US$35 million budget, and saw Meryl Streep winning a Golden Globe for her performance as Miranda. The film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture, as well as for Best Actress (Streep) and Best Costume Design at the Academy Awards.

Alongside Streep, Anne Hathaway (The Idea of You), Emily Blunt (Fall Guy), and Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games trilogy) will reprise their respective roles as Andy, Emily, and Nigel in the sequel. Despite the 20-year hiatus, it feels like nothing much has changed — the recently released trailer reveals how Miranda doesn’t remember who Andy, now the features editor at Runway, is. Even so, the duo is seen joining forces against Andy’s former assistant Emily, who has become a luxury conglomerate that controls the ad revenue Miranda needs.

David Frankel, who directed the first film, is back at the helm, joined by original screenwriter-producer pair Aline Brosh McKenna and Karen Rosenfelt. Additional casting includes returning stars Tracie Toms (Lily, best friend to Andy) and Tibor Feldman (Irv Ravitz, the profit-focused Runway Magazine publisher), as well as several fresh faces: Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), Kenneth Branagh (Hercule Poirot), Simone Ashley (Bridgerton), Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive), Patrick Brammall (Evil), Caleb Hearon (Fargo), Pauline Chalamet (The Sex Lives of College Girls), B.J. Novak (The Office), and Conrad Ricamora (How To Get Away with Murder).

The Devil Wears Prada 2 lands in theatres on 1 May 2026.
