LEGO has unveiled the winners of its “Build Your Nostalgia: 90s Throwback!” challenge, bringing to life two fan-created sets featuring period icons The X-Files and Wallace & Gromit.
The challenge tasked creators to channel their nostalgia into builds that were between 1,000 to 5,000 pieces and bring to life their favourite TV shows and movies from the 90s. The two winning sets will now go into development, undergoing tweaks by the LEGO Ideas team before becoming an official set sometime in the future.

The X-Files set was designed by user WetWired and features an intricate diorama of a forest UFO scene above a recreation of Fox Mulder’s famous basement office. The set will comprise approximately 2,020 pieces and includes seven minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, “Grey” Alien, The Jersey Devil, Assistant Director Walter Skinner, Syndicate Leader and Eugene Tooms.
The set is based on the sci-fi TV show The X-Files, which centres around two FBI agents, Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), who carry out paranormal investigations. The show debuted in 1993 and ran for 11 seasons, becoming a worldwide phenomenon in the process.

On the other hand, the Wallace & Gromit set was submitted by user Pidelium and depicts the legendary British inventor Wallace and his trusty canine companion Gromit. The set is based on the classic 1995 movie Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave, and features the duo on board their iconic motorcycle and sidecar.
The two sets are currently in their development phase, with the LEGO design team working with WetWired and Pidelium to bring their winning sets to life. It is to be noted that the final products might also differ from their initial fan designs, so it remains to be seen what they will actually look like as they approach their currently unspecified launch date.
