Amidst the recent leaks of its upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo has announced the release of another console, albeit of a very different kind. The company has teased its collaboration with LEGO for a set based on the original Game Boy handheld video game console, set for a release in October this year.
The brief teaser trailer, which was posted on X/Twitter, shows off the individual pieces that would eventually make up the final product (although this was not shown yet), consisting of the console’s iconic purple A and B buttons alongside its black D-pad brick. Apart from this, no further information was provided apart from its October release window.

This isn’t the first time the two companies have collaborated, with a number of previously released sets based on Nintendo properties such as Animal Crossing and Super Mario. Its consoles have also received the LEGO treatment too, with a rendition of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 2020.
At this early stage, it’s difficult to say what play features the upcoming LEGO Game Boy set will include, or if it will be to scale with the actual console. In the case of the LEGO NES, the set did include a removable game cartridge, as well as a miniature retro TV decked out with a crank that allowed users to move Mario along a sliding scene from the game, so it won’t be surprising if LEGO incorporated similar features for its upcoming set.
No matter how intricate its play features will turn out to be, the LEGO Game Boy set will no doubt evoke a sense of nostalgia for gamers and brick enthusiasts alike. With such a brief teaser, collectors will just have to wait in eager anticipation for LEGO and Nintendo to eventually reveal a proper look at the finished product in the months to come.
