League of Legends (LoL) and Louis Vuitton (LV) are probably two names one would never expect to see in the same sentence, but the 2019 iteration of the LoL World Championship certainly changed things. Prior to the Championship Finals held on November 10, 2019, the French company announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Riot Games in apt celebration of the annual tournament, which eventually saw FunPlus Phoenix (PFX) emerging as the champion squad.
The team’s reward? Apart from the cash prize and Summoner’s Cup trophy, each of them also received a customised watch from the luxury brand that sports a dark brown leather strap printed with LV’s monogram and the LoL Esports branding. Simple elegance.
The value of each timepiece remains unknown, although it’s expected to fall within the US$3,000 to US$5,000 range – the usual price of one LV watch, and the very literal meaning of ‘time is money’.
To the victor go the spoils, indeed.
