Sonic is getting another animated adventure, as Sega has announced the Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond 35th anniversary short film, which is set to debut sometime this Fall.
Announced during the Anime Expo 2026 as part of the “Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Shorts: A Frame-by-Frame Retrospective” panel, the film also received a brief teaser which offers a look at Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Tails, Amy, and Rouge facing off against Dr Eggman and Metal Sonic. The panel was hosted by Sonic art and animation team members Takashi Iizuka, Austin Keys, and Jasmin Hernandez, alongside special guests Tyson Hesse, Evan Stanley, and Alan Wan.
Even though he is clearly outnumbered, Metal Sonic possesses the raw power to outmatch the group of six, so it will be interesting to see how the heroes will work together to overcome the odds. Although Sonic the Hedgehog: Memories and Beyond doesn’t seem to have any ties with the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film in 2027, the inclusion of Metal Sonic and Amy, both characters that will be newly introduced to the live-action film franchise, is a notable detail, so hopefully, the movie will grace us with the appearance of Rouge the Bat too.

“Dr Eggman’s new evil scheme is to upgrade Metal Sonic into the ultimate fighting machine by stealing Sonic’s life-data and harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds,” reads Sega’s official description of the short. “Sonic and his friends realise that to defeat Metal Sonic, they must rely on the friendship they built through their adventures.” The short will celebrate the Blue Blur’s 35th anniversary when it releases in Fall 2026.
