Kingdom Hearts magic is heading to smartphones, but this time without Sora and gang in tow. Square Enix has dropped a teaser trailer for Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, alongside a 2024 release window for iOS and Android devices.

The trailer previews the upcoming adventure, which follows the player character travelling to Scala ad Caelum in the astral plane. Set sometime after the events of Kingdom Hearts Union χ, the game will introduce a new GPS gameplay mechanic that involves hopping around the world without leaving the comfort of one’s home. Character pieces can also be collected, with each granting a specific special power.
In true Kingdom Hearts fashion, fans can expect a host of Disney character appearances. The trailer saw Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, Winnie the Pooh, Ariel, Simba, and Baymax, and more faces are expected to grace the title when it launches officially.
Not everyone will be able to call first dibs on Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, however. The action RPG is limiting its closed beta test to Australia and the UK, and only 3,000 spots — split evenly between Android and iOS owners — are open. The first wave for iOS devices runs from 29 November through 8 December, while testing for the Android version is slated for January 2024.
Interested parties have until 19 November to indicate their interest for the closed beta, accessible through the game’s website. This latest update comes after a year-long information lull, following a formal announcement in 2022 as part of the series’ 20th Anniversary event. For longtime enthusiasts, there’s even more Kingdom Hearts excitement to look forward to — Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently in development, offering a tease of a new story arc and more realistic art style. There’s no word on its release date just yet, but hopefully it won’t take another 12 years.
