Keanu Reeves is back as everyone’s favourite assassin. In a first-look image for John Wick: Chapter 4, the 57-year-old actor is seen in a stylized haze of candles, perhaps praying in a church for the swathe of bad guys he’s about to kill.
Despite little detail in the new image, it gives a glimpse of a contemplative Wick, taking a break from all the action to think things through. Think of it as the calm before the storm because as CinemaCon footage confirmed back in April, Reeves’ character is going to have plenty of skull-bashing action scenes.
In the footage screened at CinemaCon, Wick was seen punching a wooden post. His knuckles start to bleed as co-star Laurence Fishburne, who plays The Bowery King, hypes him up. Wick also fights two others in the lobby of an art gallery. Unfortunately, the footage, which is said to be part of the movie’s first trailer, has yet to debut online.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is once again directed by Chad Stahelski. Joining Reeves and Fishburne as newcomers are Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Japanese-British pop singer Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada (Army of the Dead), Marko Zaror (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), Bill Skarsgård (It: Chapter Two), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption).
John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theatres on 23 May 2023.
