A Suikoden renaissance may be on the horizon, as the Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) series is getting several gestating developments. Konami unveiled on the Gensou Suikoden Live web programme that an anime adaption based on Suikoden II is in the works, alongside a new mobile game and stage play.
Titled Suikoden: The Anime, the project marks the first anime series from Konami Animation and sees Yuzo Sato (Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back) in the director’s seat. Ryō Hino serves as producer, and other details, including voice cast members, release date, and plot will be announced later.

These relationships between characters, and this dramatic story… I’m looking forward to sharing the story with even more people. Meanwhile, Genso Suikoden- Mon no Monshou Senshou-hen (Suikoden: The Crest of the Gate War Arc) is set to be the first stage play inspired by the JPG classic. Norihito Nakayashiki (Kuroko’s Basketball, World Trigger stage plays) is directing his own script, with the main cast as follows:
- The Protagonist (Bocchan) played by Naoki Okamura
- Gremio played by Takuma Wada
- Ted played by Ryoki Nagae
- Flik played by Takeshi James Yamada
- Viktor played by Ryuko Isogai
A teaser trailer for the upcoming mobile title Genso Suikoden: Star Leap was also shown, teasing a new story set in the same world as the previous entries in the series. “The Rune of Change is one of the 27 True Runes that are said to have created the world. The story begins just east to the giant Scarlet Moon Empire, at a village located on the shore of a lake. One night, our hero, the village chief Hou’s son, comes back home successful from his first hunt,” reads the game’s official description.”
“The village is filled with celebration and brimming with hope for the coming days, but an assault is launched, and the fate of the village is changed in an instant. Our hero, along with Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur, embarks on a journey to restore peace to the village. In the midst of the great whirlpool of destiny, the Hero’s small adventure turns into a large ambition for our precious one.”
The main story, which takes place before the first game and after Suikoden V, will have a fully-voiced cast. Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is the latest entry in the long-running series, releasing 6 March 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The original game debuted on the PlayStation in 1995 and received a sequel in 1998.
