Jeremy Allen White Joins ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ As Jabba The Hutt’s Son, Rotta

This is the way. Jeremy Allen White is set to make his Star Wars debut in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, directed by Jon Favreau. Known for his standout performances in The Bear and The Iron Claw, White will voice Rotta the Hutt, the son of iconic Star Wars gangster Jabba the Hutt.

Rotta the Hutt first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), which introduced the character as a pawn in the battle between the Republic and the Separatists. Kidnapped by Count Dooku to frame the Jedi, Rotta was rescued by Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, gaining Jabba’s trust in the process. Despite this, Rotta has remained largely absent from the Star Wars timeline, leaving his fate after Jabba’s death in Return of the Jedi unexplored.

Set in the New Republic era, The Mandalorian & Grogu offers a fresh opportunity to delve into Rotta’s story. With Jabba’s criminal empire fractured and characters like Bib Fortuna and Boba Fett stepping into power, Rotta’s role in this power vacuum remains a mystery. The film could provide answers about his whereabouts during these pivotal events and his potential role as an ally — or adversary — for Din Djarin and Grogu.

Joining White in the film are Pedro Pascal, reprising his role as Din Djarin, and Sigourney Weaver, whose character is yet to be revealed. White’s involvement, although limited to a voice role, opens the door for future opportunities within the Star Wars universe. As seen with fellow Shameless alum Cameron Monaghan’s portrayal of Cal Kestis, there’s potential for White to take on additional roles in the galaxy far, far away.

Fans can expect The Mandalorian & Grogu to connect threads from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and other Star Wars spin-offs. With plot details still under wraps, the film’s 22 May 2026, release is already generating significant anticipation. For now, fans can only speculate on the Hutt heir’s role in the movie. One thing is certain: Jeremy Allen White’s Star Wars debut promises to be a fascinating addition to both his career and the iconic franchise.
