Idris Elba-Led ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Phantom Liberty DLC Sets Sept Release

Hollywood stars are coming out to play for Cyberpunk 2077. First, there was Keanu Reeves, and now there’s Idris Elba, who will be making his debut in the game’s Phantom Liberty expansion as the secret agent Solomon Reed.

A new trailer revealed at Xbox Games Showcase showed off a first look at the upcoming DLC, including more action-packed missions and an entirely new area of Night City, as well as a firm release date. It’s now slated to launch on 26 September, with Reeves set to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand.

CD Projekt Red’s upcoming adventure follows V on a mission to rescue the President of the New United States of America, who has landed in the dangerous district of Dogtown after her orbital shuttle was shut down. At the same time, players will embark on a quest to save V’s life, as hinted by a new voice in the trailer, saying they are aware of the ticking timebomb in the protagonist’s head.

Apart from a “deep dive into an intricate story of espionage and political intrigue which connects the highest echelons of power with the brutal world of black-market mercenaries”, Phantom Liberty will also introduce new quests, gigs, vehicles, tech, cyberware, weapons, and a new Relic skill tree. Elba’s character, meanwhile, is hopping onboard to help players “fulfill an impossible mission of espionage and survival”.

The DLC is shaping up to be an intriguing continuation of Cyberpunk 2077‘s narrative, but not everyone will be able to experience it — it’s only coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions being left behind.
