CD Projekt’s much rumoured The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion might be one step closer to becoming reality, with the company’s latest financial report seemingly pointing to the fact that not only are the rumours true, but the expansion might also drop relatively soon.

“Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program,” said chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz in an earnings call.
The update comes after trusted industry whisperer — a leaker of sorts, if you will — Borys Nieśpielak claimed that a secret DLC for the highly acclaimed RPG is set to release in May 2026, highlighting that the information was further verified by “several” independent sources. Reportedly, it’s being helmed by Fool’s Theory, the studio behind the upcoming The Witcher remake and serves as a way to kick off the marketing campaign for The Witcher 4.
As with all rumours, take the speculation with a grain of salt. Eurogamer gave a pretty spot-on analysis that an expansion could resolve handover issues between Geralt and Ciri, who will take over as the new protagonist, and a paid option would plug the financial gap until the sequel arrives. But it has also been 10 years since the release of The Witcher 3, and development is now being powered by Unreal Engine 5 instead of the studio’s older proprietary Red Engine.
Naturally, CD Projekt Red declined to comment on the matter, and who can blame them? The team is hard at work on The Witcher 4, which entered full production at the end of 2024, with a fifth and sixth title set to follow suit.

The sequel currently has no release date, but is expected to arrive in 2027 at the earliest. While story details remain sparse, The Witcher 4 follows an older Ciri on her Path and will star Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, in a limited capacity.
