The highly-anticipated Highlander reboot, featuring Henry Cavill in a lead role, is edging closer to production.
Henry Cavill, known for his performances in Man of Steel and The Witcher, is joining forces with John Wick director Chad Stahelski for this fresh take on the 1986 cult classic. In a recent interview with Collider, while promoting his latest film Argylle, Cavill shared his excitement about the project, emphasising the extensive training he is about to undertake.
“The training is about to begin in earnest. It’ll be a very long training process, and I’m very excited to get into it. There’s only so much I can tell you at the moment. I want to keep everything under wraps for as long as possible.”
Director Chad Stahelski’s vision for the Highlander reboot extends beyond a single film, hoping to kickstart a new franchise. The narrative revolves around Scottish warrior Connor MacLeod, famous for his immortality, which he discovers after surviving a battle that should have been fatal. Screenwriter Mike Finch, known for John Wick: Chapter 4, has also penned the script for this reboot, promising a fresh and engaging take on the immortal swordsman’s world.
The original Highlander, despite a lukewarm initial reception and performance at the box office, eventually gained a cult following. Its impact led to several sequels and a spinoff television series, Highlander: The Series, which also spawned its own offshoots and movies.
Set for a 2026 release, Stahelski’s Highlander reboot, starring Cavill, aims to reinvigorate the franchise with a modern-day New York City backdrop.
