The Terminator franchise may not be done yet – but Arnold Schwarzenegger is.
Schwarzenegger shot to fame due to his role as the Terminator. Thus far, the franchise has released a total of six movies, with varying success. The first two entries were – and still are – highly regarded by fans but Terminator Genisys and Terminator Salvation were the beginning of its doom. Even Schwarzenegger’s return in the sixth movie, Terminator: Dark Fate could not save it.
“The franchise is not done. I’m done. I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a great idea,” said Schwarzenegger (via THR).
“The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I always would look at it very fondly. The first three movies were great. Number four [Salvation] I was not in because I was governor. Then five [Genisys] and six [Dark Fate] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned. We knew that ahead of time because they were just not well written.”
Unlike other actors who lurk around a franchise far too long, the 75-year-old actor knows when it is time to hang up his leather boots and wide frame sunglasses. It’ll be hard to see another actor step into the iconic role after this, but at least Terminator fans know that the franchise will continue to move on. Maybe this time, it’ll feature A.I. instead of killer cyborgs.
