Paramount+ has officially cancelled its live-action Halo series after two seasons, leaving fans of the popular Xbox video game adaptation disappointed. The big-budget series, which premiered in 2022, aired its second season from February to March 2024.
“Paramount+ can confirm that Halo will not move forward with a third season on the service,” the streamer stated. “We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries, and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward.”
Despite the cancellation, Xbox, Amblin TV, and 343 Industries are reportedly seeking new platforms to continue the series. “We deeply appreciate the millions of fans who propelled the Halo series to be a global success and we remain committed to broadening the Halo universe in different ways in the future,” 343 Industries said in a statement.
The Halo series starred Pablo Schreiber as the iconic Master Chief John-117, a genetically enhanced super soldier fighting in a war against the Covenant, a coalition of alien races. The cast also included Natascha McElhone, Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine, and many others.
Developed for television by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane, the series faced a long journey to the screen, with various adaptations proposed as far back as 2005. Despite its ambitious scope and significant production efforts, the show struggled to secure a long-term foothold.
Fans of the franchise will now have to wait and see if the series finds a new home or if it remains a two-season endeavor.
