For Haikyuu!! fans eagerly awaiting news following season four, a two-part movie will replace the anime’s fifth season, and it’s set to adapt the final arcs of the manga, which ended in 2020. The news first broke last year, but fans now have a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming film.
Titled Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen (Haikyu!! the Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump), it will adapt the highly-anticipated final match between Karasuno High and Nekoma High. The official logo for the film was also revealed, with animation studio Production I.G. (Moriarty The Patriot, Kuroko no Basuke) attached to the project.
More information will be revealed at the Haikyuu! Festa kickoff event on 24 September 2023, featuring appearances from the anime’s voice actors, including Ayumu Murase (Hinata), and Kaito Ishikawa (Kageyama). Fans who are planning to attend the event can purchase limited tickets on the Haikyuu!! website on 16 September.
There will also be exclusive merchandise fans can get their hands on, from light sticks to character charms, which will be sold at the venue as well as available for pre-order. Additionally, fans can expect original dramatised reading by Haikyuu!! creator Haruchi Furudate and a live performance of the anime’s different opening themes by artists SPYAIR and BURNOUT SYNDROMES.
The event will also see fans decked out in Haikyuu!’s signature orange, as well as dub the crowd’s cheering in the film, so you might just hear yourself cheering in certain scenes!
The Haikyuu!! manga ran from 2011 to 2020, and got its first anime adaptation in April 2014. The second season aired in October 2015, with the third premiering a year later in the same month. The fourth season was split into two parts, ending its run in October 2020 and joining a host of other inspired works, including stage plays, a clay-animated short, a compilation of anime films, and more.
