Excitement continues to brew in the air, as Haikyuu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump is set (pun intended) to make its way to theatres in Southeast Asia, including Singapore.
Distributor Medialink confirmed in a press release (via Anime News Network) that the highly-anticipated film will open in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines sometime this May. No exact release date was given, but Hong Kong and Macau are the first in (Asia outside of Japan) to debut it on 11 April. Taiwan is next on the list with a 12 April premiere.
This spells good news for Southeast Asian fans, as the region was excluded from the first wave of international release announcements. Previously, it was revealed that Crunchyroll would bring the animated feature to the following countries, with no mention of Asian (and by extent, Southeast Asian) territories:
- 30 May: Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama), Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru
- 31 May: Canada, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States
- 7 June: Turkey
- 12 June: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland
- 25 June: Austria, Germany
- 27 June: Switzerland
The streamer also gave an update on the release dates for Blue Lock The Movie -Episode Nagi-, coming 28 June to the U.S., alongside confirmation of an international release for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom.
Haikyuu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump premiered in Japan on 16 February and has earned around 8.7 billion yen at the domestic box office (US$57.65 million | S$77.3 million) to date. The first of a two-part film, it serves to replace the anime’s fifth season, and comes as part of the 10th anniversary project for the anime series.
Crunchyroll describes its story as follows:
“Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High’s volleyball club to be like his idol, a former Karasuno player known as the ‘Little Giant.’ But, Hinata soon finds that he must team up with his middle school nemesis, Tobio Kageyama. Their clashing styles turn into a surprising weapon, but can they beat their rival Nekoma High in the highly anticipated ‘Dumpster Battle,’ the long awaited ultimate showdown between two opposing underdog teams?”
