Godzilla vs Kong Sequel

Gory New Poster Revealed For ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’

Since the harrowing and imposing silhouette of an apex predator revealed itself in a 35-second teaser back in April this year, it’s been quietly lurking in the shadows for the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, until now.

A new poster for the upcoming movie has unveiled a first look at a colossal undiscovered threat called Scar King, likely promising a long-drawn, epic, and bloody battle between the kaiju. Following the success of Godzilla vs. Kong in 2021, director Adam Wingard is set to take the helm once again for the beasts’ latest endeavour – another adventure in Legendary’s MonsterVerse.

The sequel will see many familiar faces, including Rebecca Hall (The Night House), Brian Tyree Henry (Bullet Train), and Kaytlee Hottle (Godzilla vs Kong), who are reprising their roles as Ilene Andrews, Bernie Hayes, and Jia respectively. Joining them are other Hollywood heavyweights such as Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (The Batman), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople).

This update comes as a welcome breath of fresh air, giving fans of the series something to latch onto, after already having to bear a month-long delay in its release due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. While previous MonsterVerse films only brushed over Scar King, MonsterVerse diehards should recognise the titan, whose story has been explored in series like Unnatural World.

An ancient beast that harnessed the Hollow Earth’s energy to replicate the abilities of his enemies, Scar King was defeated by Godzilla and trapped in a section of the Hollow Earth. Full of anger, he proceeds to train his body and mind while entrapped, and based on the new poster, appears to to have broken loose. Godzilla and Kong better be ready.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hits the silver screen on 12 April 2024.
