A new champion is in the running for Prime Video’s live-action God of War series. Hot on the heels of a creative overhaul, the show has found a new showrunner in Ronald D. Moore, best known for his work on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica.

As reported by Deadline, the scribe is also set to serve as writer and executive producer of the adaptation, filling the gaps left behind by original showrunner Rafe Judkins and fellow executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The trio finished multiple scripts before the changeover, but it’s unclear how much of the content will carry over to Moore’s version.
Cory Barlog, creative director at Santa Monica, the studio behind the game, remains onboard as executive producer. Joining him are PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, alongside Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Hermen Hulst and Vertigo’s Roy Lee, with Santa Monica’s Jeff Ketcham co-executive producing.
The live-action series marks Moore’s first project since his return to Sony TV in June. During his previous stint, he developed and created Outlander for Starz and For All Mankind for Apple TV+, and executive produced the anthology Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams for Prime Video.

No release date has been set for the God of War series since it entered production in March 2022. The original franchise remains one of the most well-known gaming IPs, spanning seven games across four generations of PlayStation consoles. 2018’s God of War and its sequel, God of War Ragnarok are the latest additions to the family, serving as a soft reboot of Kratos’ journey.
