It seems a reunion between Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin and Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the HBO series, may be on the horizon. The renowned author has teased a potential project involving the latter, but stays mum on whether it’ll be a return to Westeros or an entirely new work altogether.
“We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about… well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it,” reads a blog post detailing his lunch meet-up with the star. “But it could be so much fun.”
While there hasn’t been any official word on offshoots featuring Williams, an Arya spin-off is entirely plausible, considering the volume of announced projects. There are currently seven Game of Thrones adaptations in development, coming up to four animated and three live-action works, and there’s a chance that one of them could focus on the fan favourite.
If so, it would paint a stark (hah) contrast to her brother Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, whose show was cancelled earlier this year. Other scrapped titles a show called 10,000 Ships, a Braavos series, and a prequel based on an in-world apocalypse called The Long Night. An MMORPG is also reportedly in the works, though details remain scant on that front.
The next confirmed trip back into the fantasy realm will be A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones and during the Targaryen dynasty reign. The six-episode title is based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, following Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire, Egg, who’s destined to become King Aegon V Targaryen. Meanwhile, House of the Dragon Season 3 continues to be in the pipeline, with Season 4 serving to conclude the saga.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms hits HBO and Max in late 2025.
