’For All Mankind’ Renewed For 5th Season, Gets ‘Star City’ Spin-off Series

Apple TV’s For All Mankind is charting a course even further into space, as the series was renewed for a fifth season, along with a spin-off series being announced, Star City, which will involve the Soviet space race.

Star City is described as a “propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.”

Current executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi said in a statement that they “wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. We could not be more excited to continue building out the alternate history universe of For All Mankind.” Co-creator Ron Moore will also be credited as executive producer on Star City, despite his departure from his former role as showrunner.

For All Mankind explores an alternate history where Russia makes the first moon landing instead of the United States of America, and stars Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon) as NASA astronaut Edward Baldwin, Wrenn Schmidt (The Looming Tower) as NASA engineer Margo Madison, and Svetlana Efremova as Soviet official Irina Morozova.

The series is currently streaming on Apple TV.
