First ‘Dune: Prophecy’ Trailer Reveals Bene Gesserit Origin

HBO has unveiled the first teaser trailer for their upcoming prequel series, Dune: Prophecy, set to debut this fall. The series, which delves deep into the origins of the Bene Gesserit millenniums before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, stars Emily Watson and Olivia Williams as sisters Valya and Tula. These characters play pivotal roles in founding the enigmatic sisterhood known for their mystic abilities.

Dune: Prophecy, deriving elements from both Frank Herbert’s original Dune novel and Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, spans six episodes. The narrative follows the elder Harkonnen siblings, Griffin and Valya, as they strive to restore their family’s fortune.

Their journey inadvertently contributes to the establishment of the Bene Gesserit, a collective of women wielding significant influence both politically and mystically. The series aims to portray how these women come together to shape the future ruler, Kwisatz Haderach, amidst the galaxy’s political complexities.

The preview also introduces a new aesthetic dimension to the series, showing spacecraft and holographic shields that align with the visual style seen in Villeneuve’s films.

The extensive cast includes notable actors like Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Cruella), Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Warcraft), Jodhi May (The Last of the Mohicans, The Witcher) and Josh Heuston (Heartbreak High).

While Dune: Prophecy takes creative liberties not directly found in Herbert’s novels, it promises to dive deep into the early practices and strategic expansions of the Bene Gesserit. This exploration includes their early interactions with prominent houses, possibly hinting at the roles these alliances will play in the broader narrative.
