Actors are often remembered for iconic roles, and the same can be said for those who have voiced some of the more beloved characters in video games as well. For Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid series, that honour has always belonged to David Hayter, who plays Solid Snake in multiple games. That is, until he was replaced by Kiefer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Obviously, that move was never welcomed by fans, with plenty still hoping that Hayter would make his return in the years since. After more than a decade, that wish might finally be coming true, as Konami has released a new teaser trailer starring Hayter for what the channel calls the Metal Gear Solid Legacy series.
For 28 seconds, fans can reminisce about all the good times they have had in the past with Hayter’s voice providing a timely trip down memory lane. Considering that the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 just released, this is a marketing masterstroke by the Japanese gaming company.
Yet, the final line of “I hope you’re ready, because this is only the beginning” leaves room for something to come along in the future, and fans are obviously showing their love for this reunion already via the positive comments for the video. Could Hayter be back to voice either Solid Snake or Big Boss in a new Metal Gear Solid game? That would be a sweet surprise, or is there going to be a version of Metal Gear Solid V that has Hayter’s voice instead?
Konami has ignited a conversation, and it is clear that the community has the appetite for it. In any case, we are all on board for this ride, even if it ends up being just a walk down memory lane with one of the more recognisable voices in gaming.
