Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has recently debuted in theatres, and as the weekend approaches, audiences are anticipated to share their reviews, following early critical acclaim. Among the early praises was a notable commendation from Hideo Kojima, the esteemed video game designer, who expressed his admiration for Miller’s work on X/Twitter.

Miller identified Kojima as an ideal figure to helm a video game adaptation of the Mad Max world, though he admitted he would not propose such a project to Kojima, given the latter’s rich slate of original projects. Kojima is currently engaged with multiple ventures, including a game collaboration with Jordan Peele titled OD, a live-action film adaptation of his game Death Stranding, and a new action-espionage game titled Physint. Additionally, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set for a 2025 release on PlayStation 5.

Reflecting on Avalanche Studios’ Mad Max video game released in 2015, Miller expressed dissatisfaction, stating that it did not meet his high standards. He emphasised his preference for embarking on projects only if they can be executed at the highest level. Despite this, some fans defended the game, particularly as it had been overshadowed by the release of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which ironically launched on the same day.

Despite Miller’s reservations about directly asking Kojima, he holds a high regard for Kojima’s potential to enrich the Mad Max universe, given his profound appreciation for the franchise. The discussion opens up possibilities for future collaborations.

While Miller did not commit to any immediate plans for a new game, the interest in seeing Kojima’s take on a Mad Max video game is likely to continue among fans. Meanwhile, audiences can experience the latest cinematic chapter of the series with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which promises another intense exploration of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
