‘Elden Ring Nightreign’ Adding High-Difficulty ‘Deep of Night’ Mode For Those Who Love Pain

Fans who enjoyed FromSoftware’s co-op spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, but thought it was too easy for their tastes, are in for a treat, as a high-difficulty Expedition mode, titled Deep of Night, is heading to the game in September.

Deep of Night

Announced by publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, Deep of Night is described as “a high-difficulty challenge mode designed for seasoned players who have navigated through the Night many times”, and will include not only stronger enemies, but will also lock players out of selecting the specific Nightlord boss they wish to encounter, and doesn’t inform them of any ongoing terrain changes.

In addition, special items known as “Depths Relics” will also appear in the new mode, alongside weapons with added effects, both positive and detrimental. “Furthermore, the difficulty increases the deeper you descend,” the announcement post continued, “The ratings will fluctuate based on wins and losses, affecting the ‘depth.'”

Apart from this quick tease on Deep of Night’s gameplay systems, not much else is known about the new challenge mode for now, only that it will consist of various instances named “Depths”, and that once players manage to clear Depth 3, they will be treated to an “endless battle” in Depths 4 and 5 for “even greater thrills”.

The Deep of Night Expedition mode will be added to Elden Ring Nightreign on 11 September 2025.
