‘Dune: Part 3’ Kicks Up (Sand)Storm With First Look At Timothée Chalamet’s Darker Paul Atreides

The 98th Academy Awards, or 2026 Oscars, wasn’t quite Timothée Chalamet‘s night, but no matter – it’s time for the Lisan al-Gaib to shine. The Marty Supreme star has unveiled the first look at Dune: Part 3, the upcoming trilogy-capper to Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation, that teases the return of Paul Atreides, who now looks a lot more different than fans remember.

In it, wrinkles and red scarring are seen around the character’s eyes, an intense blue that stands out against the dark hues of the Fremen stillsuit (Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, anyone?). Following the drop, the official Instagram account for the Dune franchise released more visuals featuring both fresh and returning faces, including Robert Pattinson as new villain Scytale, Zendaya as Chani, Jason Momoa as Hayt, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Florence Pugh as Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, and Isaach De Bankolé as Farok.

The official title of the threequel was first announced last July, replacing the previously thought Dune: Messiah, after the second novel in Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi series. While story details remain a closely guarded secret for now, Dune: Part 3 is expected to explore Paul Atreides’ rise to power, per the source material, with Irulan, Alia, and Léa Seydoux’s Lady Margot set to play a much bigger role in the narrative.

Joining Villeneuve on his final trip to Arrakis is composer Hans Zimmer, who previously shared that he was already scoring music for the third film while working on the sequel in 2024. Slated for release on 18 December, it will likely be filmmaker’s send-off to the franchise before he starts work on reviving James Bond under the Amazon MGM Studios banner.
