The 2026 Oscars has come and gone, and One Battle After Another emerged the biggest winner of the evening (or day, depending on time zone). The black comedy action-thriller film notched six awards in total, including a first Best Picture win for director Paul Thomas Anderson, who had been nominated 14 times across different categories prior.

It wasn’t the only first-time victory – this year’s event added a new category recognising best casting, which was won by Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another. Sinners, with a record-breaking 16 nods, saw helmer Ryan Coogler taking home Best Original Screenplay, alongside the Best Actor accolade for Michael B. Jordan, Best Original Score for Ludwig Goransson, and Best Cinematographer for Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Goransson scored his third win in the category, while Coogler, Jordan, and Arkapaw are all first-time Oscar victors; individually, Coogler and Arkapaw become the second Black writer and the first woman to win in their respective categories.

Additionally, “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters earned the first win for the K-pop genre at the Oscars (Best Original Song), with the live-action short category ending in the first tie in 14 years, shared betweenThe Singers andTwo People Exchanging Saliva. The event, hosted by Conan O’ Brien for a second year in a row, also featured tributes to several stars who passed away within the past year, and live performances of “Golden” and “I Lied to You” from Sinners.
